Symbiotic Loop is an art installation that combines ecology with interactive technology, and draws inspiration from plant habitats created within urban landscapes. At the center of the exhibition space, the artists have constructed a spherical structure made of pipes and electrical wires, which encloses an automated interactive plant ecosystem.
However, the water and light needed by this ecosystem depend completely on audience participation and interaction. Motion detection cameras detect the audience's positions within the space and project dynamic images composed of cables and pipes onto the floor, guiding viewers towards the central spherical installation. The amounts of water and light the plants receive vary with the number and position of the viewers, as well as their proximity to the sculpture.
Audience participation directly impacts the survival and growth of the plants, and the audience and technology jointly determine the growing conditions of the plants. This not only demonstrates the interconnectedness of all things, but also highlights that the health of each part depends on the health of the whole. The work aims to make viewers aware of their responsibility as part of the system and encourages them to actively participate in sustaining the ecosystem and the integrity of the artwork by supplying energy collectively.
